The passing of Norman Walsh

It is with sadness that we, on behalf of the UBKA officers and executive, advise you of the passing of Norman Walsh.

Norman passed away early this morning. His funeral service will take place on Tuesday 9th January at 1pm in Hillsborough Presbyterian Church.

The family wishes are for the house to be strictly private.

Norman Walsh MBE, CFL, was an active beekeeper for over 60 years, keeping bees in Hillsborough, Sixmilecross, Omagh, Dromore and Lisburn. He was awarded an MBE for services to beekeeping. He was a Federation of Irish Beekeeping Assocs. Honey Judge, Senior Certificate holder and Certified Federation Lecturer. He was a regular attendee at the FIBKA Summer school in Gormanston where, in later years, he lectured and demonstrated. He travelled all over Ireland and to England, Scotland, Isle of Man and Ukraine to lecture and demonstrate on beekeeping and to judge hive products.

He won the World cup at the National Honey Show in London on two occasions. He was a past President of UBKA and a past Secretary and Press Officer of Dromore BKA and an honorary member of Dromore BKA.

He was the secretary of the organising committee which brought Apimondia, the huge International bi-annual bee conference, to Dublin in 2005 and he also attended Apimondia in Slovenia, Melbourne and Kiev.

Norman will be remembered fondly by everyone at Dromore BKA, UBKA and FIBKA.
