In recent years the bee and other pollinator populations around the world have suffered significant declines leading to concerns over the effect on crop yields.
A number of theories have been proposed suggesting reasons for the decline, including industry, pollution, climate change and farming methods.
A joint initiative between Ulster Farmers’ Union and the Ulster Beekeepers Association, has resulted in the launch of a leaflet designed to bring to the attention of the farming community, the synergy that can exist between both groups.
A UBKA spokesman said:
We look forward to a good relationship between the two organisations, and have already jointly planned some initiatives to bring beekeepers and farmers together to get to know each other’s needs, and how best to assist each other
