About Us
The Association flourished until 1988/89 when, following disastrous winters and springs, up to 90% of stocks of bees were lost. The Association was discontinued through lack of support. It was reformed in 1991 and is affiliated to the Ulster Beekeepers Association. It currently has a membership of thirty two plus ten affiliated members and is a steadily growing organization due primarily to the aims of the Association and its increasing profile locally. The Association is being recognized as a progressive organization with the Association winning the shield for the best Association twice and being runner up once. The Association Treasurer, being appointed the President of the Ulster Beekeepers Association in April 2000. The Associations members are dispersed throughout the area and organizes monthly meetings with speakers on a range of beekeeping related topics. Members also have the advantage of discounts on certain beekeeping items such as frames, hives, wax foundation, etc. The annual membership fee includes bee insurance for our members through the UBKA. The Association, through various fund aid, provides members with access to our Education and Demonstration Centre and the opportunity to attend our education classes where experienced beekeepers are able to offer expert advice on all aspects of beekeeping from purchasing bees and equipment to rearing queens. |
